I just played a gig at Ta Blu with Rajasthan Roots and it was a great success! I was only playing drumset (not tabla) on this gig and really enjoying getting back into it. The greatest part was being able to play tihais and other tabla rhythms with the morchang/cartaal percussionist. We had a great time and the audience really enjoyed it. There are more gigs to come with them and maybe a recording. Because of this experience I am now excited of the prospect of playing drumset much more; maybe I will even get more work out of it.
Teaching this tukra today and enjoying its small pleasures! 😊🙏🏼
This is quite possibly the strangest thing you might hear all day…. 🤣I still enjoyed it though, I think that makes me strange. 🤷🏻♂️ 😂
@rakhitailor captured a warm moment last night with a long time student @ryanshah____ who is now in high school! He started in 3rd or 4th grade. The journey of teaching is a deeply gratifying path. One where even the smallest moments can illuminate the depth of what we are doing as both teachers and students. ❤️🙏🏼😊
An attempt to fit a beautiful traditional composition in an 8.5 beat taal. This was fun!
Digging this groove and rela today.
I was recently inspired by an amazing bedum tihai posted by the tabla maestro @rupaktabla_official where he used a calculation into rupak theka in a 3/4 time (dotted 16th notes). So here is a similar idea but using Dadra as the 3/4 timing. Thank you for the constant inspiration Rupak bhai! 🙏🏼
Sharing a little snippet of a video I edited this morning of the first song on my album, Openings. You can check out the full video on my YouTube channel. I will post another snippet of this soon! .
Some trippy ideas from a playful kaida today….
These are some not so common variations of a very common traditional rela over an uncommon nagma pattern…. 🤷🏻♂️🙌😊
